The Lisbon Treaty

So Labour finally squashes the will of the people by refusing a treaty referendum. This from a party that trumpets its belief in 'a dialogue with the people'. For all the clever and convoluted arguments, there is one reason alone why, and a base one at that. It's because Brown knew the people would not deliver the 'right' answer. They would vote NO! And how embarrassed Brown would be in front of all his EU counterparts, because he had already signed up for it. Hang on, wasn't this the reason Britain went into Iraq, just because Blair was too embarrassed to tell Bush that the British people had said NO in their millions? What has British democracy come down to? The views of the people are useful only as long as they agree with the government? Do they work for us or do we work for them?
